Kick off WEEK 6- Enjoy MUSIC!!

Hello my sweet friends-

Sorry this email is so late! I've been working on a music related project for you and will have to share it with you later in the week. I can't quite get it done tonight. But... I am excited to hear about your ancestors and loved ones whom you researched, or remembered in special ways this week! Did it have an impact on you? I bet they loved knowing that they were on your mind and that you were spending your valuable time getting to know them better! What about the Mystery challenge of having a temple experience? Did you get there? How did you feel there? I had a unique temple experience, in that the woman sitting in front of my had some sort of sickness or episode come about while we were sitting there. She looked faint, and shaky and I swear she lost consciousness a time or two.  They had to stop and call an emergency medical person to come care for her. Luckily her husband was there too and was able to help comfort her. He was so sweet with her. I have no idea what ended up being the problem or how she is doing but I know she got a lot of prayers from us right there in that room! Poor sweet lady.

If you don't take the survey- please feel free to just email me back and tell me about your week! We can learn so much from each other!

THIS WEEK IS OUR MUSIC WEEK!! Oh how I love music!! My mother wrote in my baby book several times about how I was always singing around the house and I still do. I loved being in choir all through jr. high and high school. I still love music and am the music leader for the junior primary in our ward at church (the kids age 3-8). Teaching them the gospel through music is such a delight. I can't even count how many spiritual experiences I have had listening to and singing music. Special times are when you hear a song with just the right message at just the right time and you feel like it's written and/or performed just for you. This alone helps us feel closer to our Father in Heaven. The songs and feelings are evidence of His love and His awareness of us. Music has such power to soften hearts and prepare them to feel the Holy Ghost and to learn important truths (like how God really sees us). It soothes, heals, encourages, empathizes, validates, cheers, reminds, comforts, teaches, enlightens... I could go on and on. I'm sure many of you have your own stories and thoughts on how much music has blessed your life, by either listening to it or performing it or both. I hope you will share with us this week.

TO GET POINTS THIS WEEK add uplifting music to your life every day and give yourself a point each day that you make an effort. Maybe put down your phone, sign off the computer (unless you are listening to music!) turn off the TV and play some sweet music. You could do Spotify, Pandora, old fashioned CD's or iTunes, there is also the Mormon Channel. It's an app too that you can put on your phone or listen online. They have several channels.  http://www.mormonchannel.org/radio/music-247 Or maybe change the kind of music you listen to. It doesn't HAVE to be Mormon music! There are millions of beautiful songs out there! Go listen to some of them! Make sure it is uplifting with good lyrics and message. I'm sure a lot of you already are great at this, so give yourself a point each day for already being a music lover!

I saw this painting by French artist, William-Adolphe Bouguereau at my sister's home tonight. How beautiful is this? I could stare at it for hours.

Janet Seto, who is doing the challenge with us, helped me out this week by sharing this beautiful story from her life about the power of music and prayer. I just love it! Thanks Janet for sharing this!

While I was away for a few weeks visiting family and finishing up my master’s program, I asked my husband to do a VERY important favor for me. Upon my return, and shortly after he picked me up from the airport, I asked him if he had done as requested. He was sorry, but he had forgotten.  It was of a time sensitive nature and so I was not only disappointed, but upset. Of course, he owed ME an apology, right?? Afterall, I had been wronged. We sat quietly in the car until we arrived at home. Quickly, I exited the car and headed straight for our bedroom.

While I was waiting for him to come to me on bended knee with a heartfelt apology, I laid on the bed and read the only reading material that was in my room at the time, an Ensign. Full of inspiring stories, but certainly not inspiring enough to soften my stubborn heart! I continued to read and wait. I offered up a prayer or two, but was mainly preoccupied with how and when my husband was going to apologize.

This was our first year of marriage and I was actually missing him, his hugs, our closeness, and couldn’t wait for him to get his apology out of the way, so we could carry on as usual. :)

Finally, blaring on our speakers was the song, Love at Home. The familiar words started going through my mind, “There is beauty all around, when there’s love at home. There is joy in every sound, when there’s love at home.” With a big smile on my face, I couldn’t help but completely soften, and go running into the living room for hugs. I told him I was sorry for being so upset and for distancing myself from him. It didn’t really seem to matter who was right or who was wrong at that moment.

He had no idea that song meant so much to me. How did he know? I’d never told him. So, while we were hugging, I just had to ask, “What made you play the song, Love at Home?”

Well, after we entered our home and I’d gone into our bedroom, my husband went into the living room, got on his knees, and started to pray. He wanted to know what he could do or say to me to make me feel better and to apologize. He said he instantly got the impression, he should play a hymn. He didn’t like that answer because he thought it sounded a bit cheesy, so he decided to pray again asking the same question. Heavenly Father gave him the same answer; play a hymn. My husband asked Heavenly Father, “If I HAVE to play a hymn, do you have one in mind I should play?” The distinct impression came to him to play, “Love at Home,” so he did.

What he didn’t know, but what Heavenly Father DID know, was that whenever there was any form of contention in my home when I was young, my mom wouldn’t say anything to us kids, she would just sit at the piano and play and sing, Love at Home. After I told him of my childhood experiences with that song, we were both acutely aware that Heavenly Father loved us, that He was a partner in our marriage, and he answered prayers. It felt like a little miracle! Especially because He’d answered them so specifically. Heavenly Father knew exactly what would soften my heart! And it did. He is there. He is listening.

Even though we had experienced our first big disagreement as a married couple, we felt even more close as we gazed into each other’s eyes, hugged, and then got down on our knees to thank Heavenly Father for answering our prayers and for caring about us so much!

WONDERFUL!!! Janet and her husband are so loved and so blessed to have such  strong connection with heaven.
Here are some really neat quotes about the power of music I thought you would like:

“Music is given of God to further his purposes. Sweet melodies mellow the souls of men and help prepare them for the gospel. After men receive the truth, songs of praise to Deity help to sanctify and cleanse their souls.”
-- Elder Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine (1966), 521

“We get nearer to the Lord through music than perhaps through any other thing except prayer.”
-- President J. Reuben Clark Jr., in Conference Report, Oct. 1936, 111

“Music is truly the universal language, and when it is excellently expressed how deeply it moves our souls.”
-- President David O. McKay, in Conference Report, Apr. 1945, 119

“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”
-- Psalm 69:30

“We hope the hymnbook will take a prominent place among the scriptures and other religious books in our homes.”
-- “First Presidency Preface,” Hymns, 1985
“Teach your children to love the hymns. Sing them on the Sabbath, in home evening, during scripture study, at prayer time. Sing as you work, as you play, and as you travel together. Sing hymns as lullabies to build faith and testimony in your young ones.”
-- “First Presidency Preface,” Hymns, 1985
“I wonder sometimes if we realize the importance of music. I wonder if we know that the Lord himself is concerned about it. He has given us the information that the song of praise is a prayer unto him. . . . It [is] our privilege, yea, our blessing, to sing and . . . our songs should be sung in righteousness.”
-- President George Albert Smith, Church News, Feb. 16, 1946, 6
“Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.”
-- Psalm 66:1–2

So, needless to say, music is a powerful tool of God's to bless our lives in many ways, so let's listen!!

Here is your survey! Please take it before Tuesday morning and have a wonderful week. It has been fun to visit with some of you in real life and hear how the challenge is blessing you! Keep it up! We are half-way done at the end of this week!! I love you all so much and thanks for your patience with me and my imperfections! Have a wonderful week!!

Lots of love!

Deep Thoughts While Washing My Car...

Lovely Friends-

Today I spent a very therapeutic 2 hours scrubbing my car clean from our trip to California. I'm teaching a class in 2 weeks about "Seeking Light and Clarity" and so it's constantly on my mind, along with this challenge, and of course, they go perfectly hand in hand.

I was thinking about how ironic it is that sometimes, some of us are so scared, or so unwilling, to live some or ALL the commandments, as best as we can, myself included! Why did it take me 30 years to really dive deep into the Book of Mormon (reading for 30 minutes every day) and develop my own testimony of it? Why did I spend so many years living most of the things that I've been asked to do, but not all? Of course, the answer is because I am mortal, and have blood pumping through my veins, which makes me susceptible to temptation, but there is another answer (or several) but what if I thought I was happy ENOUGH? What if I didn't trust Heavenly Father that He knew what He was talking about? That I could be happier (free of my eating disorder) by doing something so simple and straight forward as reading a book? Was it too easy? Why do I think I'm smarter or wiser than the God who created me and gave me life? What else am I not doing that could bring miracles into my life? What else am I afraid of doing? Do I think I'm done needing miracles?

I was thinking about this and how grateful I am for Heavenly Father's guidance (commandments, scriptures, living prophets) and this hymn popped into my head... "How Gentle God's Commands"

  1. 1. How gentle God's commands!
    How kind his precepts are!
Come, cast your burdens on the Lord
    And trust his constant care.
  2. 2. Beneath his watchful eye,
    His Saints securely dwell;
That hand which bears all nature up
    Shall guard his children well.
  3. 3. Why should this anxious load
    Press down your weary mind?
Haste to your Heav'nly Father's throne
    And sweet refreshment find.
  4. 4. His goodness stands approved,
    Unchanged from day to day;
I'll drop my burden at his feet
    And bear a song away.

To listen to the song, go here and click on the "Vocals and Music" https://www.lds.org/music/library/hymns/how-gentle-gods-commands?lang=eng
Isn't this the most beautiful message you've ever heard? We know how to find safety, security, peace, sweet refreshment, relief from our burdens. Keep his commandments, they are gentle and a blessing!! We are so lucky! Trust him. Try working on the one that is difficult for you and give it everything you have. Make it your mission to become someone who has that strength. You will be happier, and be guided to what you need to know in your life to help guide you (and your family) through these hard times. You will find strength.

Maybe it's not a commandment per se, but something you should be doing to take care of your body and spirit that you are neglecting. These things have massive impact on our lives. It's not scary. It's a blessing to be able to improve ourselves. We don't do it alone, we have God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost and each other. We are so loved! We have the answers. We just need to follow them. Don't beat yourself up either (like I tend to do). We can't go from zero to sixty in one second. But we can ask him, what step we need to take the most right now, and then go for it! We haven't taken that step yet for lots of reasons, and that's ok. But if you could see how happy it can make you and all the blessings he has in store for you, wouldn't you try it? Take that leap of faith. You won't ever be sorry! :)

Lots of love!

Thoughts on ROOTS and BRANCHES...

Friends-

Hello there you gorgeous humans! I hope everyone enjoyed the results yesterday and all the interesting stories and testimonies! So awesome to hear from each other. Our fellow Tree Challenge participant, Cindy Sorensen, put together some great information and inspiration on our theme this week, learning about our dear departed ones! Thanks so much Cindy for your help! I love what you had to say. Ok... Here's Cindy's info...
When I think of genealogy I can’t help but think of a tree.  The family is often represented as a tree with it's roots and its branches.
Since I have lost both of my parents and both of my in-laws, I have had great yearning to know more about my family.   Often I have been able to find histories of my ancestors, some I have found from Family Search, family blogs, and just by searching the internet. Other histories were handed down from my mother and grandmother.  My mother-in-law kept a detail journal of her life, which has been copied and made into a book.  The more I learn of my ancestors the more I discover about myself and the more gratitude I have for the faith and sacrifice of my parents, grandparents, and all those great grandparents. Each time I learn about one of them, then I am more curious to learn of their parents and where they lived and what was happening in history while they were alive.  I also am more grateful to my Heavenly Father for the love  He has for all of His children.  I truly believe that all His children are numbered and He has not forgotten any of them and it is so important that we seek them out and give them the same opportunity to have the saving ordinances that we have.  Family Search is an amazing tool to learn about your family, along with searching military records, Find a Grave, Histories of towns where your family members lived.
I would like to share a little find that I found on my cousin’s blog about my Grandpa Bingham, he died when my dad was 15.

What kind of man was Ted Bingham?
He owned a 1929 Chevrolet Coach that he purchased from "La Jara Filling Station." The title was recorded 10 Nov 1936. He lived in Manassa, Conejos County, Colorado in 1936.
3 Sep 1916. Ted was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was confirmed by Christen Jensen.
27 Dec 1935. James Edward Bingham was ordained an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This took place in the Manassa Ward.
April 30, 1937, he was chairman of Troop 273, Romeo Colorado of the Boy Scouts of America.
7 February, 1942 He paid a license fee of $5.45 to the State of Colorado to register his 1929 Dodge Sedan. His address at the time was Romeo, Colorado.
He held a Chauffer's License for the state of Colorado. It was issued on Valentine's Day 1945. It give his birth date as Aug 8, 1998. He had brown hair and blue eyes and was 5' 7" tall.He registered for the selective service board of Manassa, Colorado 16 February, 1942. He was a resident of Romeo, Colorado at the time.
He paid $2 for a Small Game Fishing and hunting license 16 Feb 1942.
On March 26, 1945, he paid $7.69 for 148 shares to the Manassa Land and Irrigation Company
He was Asst. Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 273 Romeo, Colorado 31 December 1942.
He was a member of the Railroad Union for the D. & R.G.W.R.R. Co. His payroll number was 30434, but no date was given on the card.
On January 26, 1944, he signed his Union Card for the Santa Fe, New Mexico Local 1353 Brotherhood of Carpenters.
On June 10, 1944, He purchased a Resident Combined fishing and Small Game hunting license. He was a resident of Romeo.
On the 21st of January, 1946, he paid a $5.45 license fee to the State of Colorado to register his Chevrolet Coach. His address at the time was Romeo.
I never knew my grandfather personally, but after seeing copies of these documents, many of which were at one time carried in his wallet, I feel that I know him a little better.

I hope each of you can find something new about one of your ancestors.  Your children might think that that photo album or that scrapbook that you spent hours putting together is just clutters, so I suggest you hand it down to your grandchildren so they can learn about you!

Here is an awesome talk on Roots and Branches from and an LDS general conference. Enjoy!

WEEK 4 RESULTS!!

Hello friends!

A million thank you's for all the responses, comments, kind words and LOVE!! You have had some incredible experiences and my dreams for you are coming true! Thanks so much for sharing with the group. I know it means a lot to everyone, even those who are silently following along. They need your love so much!  Please remember to LEARN ABOUT YOUR ANCESTORS this week and GO TO THE TEMPLE (or Mountain of the Lord, or most beautiful quiet place you can find) for 5 Mystery points!  I'm about to run out the door so here goes...  Love you so much!! Sarah

Week 4 "ah ha" Moments:
Friday was a beautiful day for my daughter as she went to the Temple for the first time.  I remember sitting next to her & the overwhelming peace & beauty that surrounds you when inside the temple.  We truly have been blessed with a world that is filled with so much beauty & a loving Heavenly Father who loves us & has paved the way for our return home to him one day.  The scenery inside the temple had so much more beauty than I remeber in the past.  Maybe it's because this challenge as brought nature to the forefront of my mind...but I'm grateful to have been able to catch a glimpse of what Gid has in store for each & everyone of us if we continue to follow his plan, stay on His path & endure to the end.  The "JOY" we will feel when we are welcomed into his arms once again will make all of this life worth it & so much more. – Tava Udall

A couple of weeks ago, I came across this verse, "Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart I have written my law." 2 Nephi 8:7. I Believe that is what we are all seeking.   we want that closeness, and pureness of heart.   We long for that Zion heart.  We are filling our lives with goodness, as we humbly commune with Him.  It is changing our hearts.  standing in holy places really does begin in our hearts.  – Spring Thibaudeau

There are many varieties of trees that God has created for us.  Trees give us so much.  Food, shelter, furniture, medicine, paper, shade, fuel for warmth, beauty, and many more resources. TREES truly give us LIFE. – Cindy Sorensen

Thoughts on Nature
I have always loved being outside in nature. This was probably the easiest of the challenges thus far for me. I would much rather be outside than in! I find looking at the stars at night fascinating, enjoying the cool breeze in the morning wakes me up and starts my day off right and watching birds, lizards, whatever creature in their element is amazing. I got my entire garden planted this week! Growing my own fruit and veggies and watching my hard work and effort benefit my family is awesome. I love gardening! BUT...My favorite place is the beach. I feel closely connected to the water and to my Heavenly Father there. I love to mediatate on the beach! The motion of the waves, the sounds as it makes as it crashes onto the shore... I'm in heaven there. – Maralyn Nava

Interestingly enough I typically don't pay that much attention unless it's unusally cloudy, rainy etc., but Thursday I was driving home down Elliot & the trees on the north side just west of greenfield jumped out to me, it was like someone was saying "hey look at me" now mind you they are still pretty bare from the winter but there was something magical that caught my eye & as I approached them & soon past them I remember thinking "wow those trees are beautiful" I instantly thought I should turn around & take a picture...I didn't but now I wish I had....not sure why they jumped out at me...but they were magical that day. – Tava Udall

I discovered that I need to get out more. – Dave Petersen

My mother (deceased) is an artist and I recall sketches she made of the different tree forms. I enjoyed looking on line at these shapes and at pictures of trees. I also found myself thinking of the lush wet ground cover and beauty of the rain forests I was familiar with when I lived in Oregon; I also looked at pictures of these. I love the sound of a breeze as it moves through the trees, and I am enjoying our slightly cooler Arizona weather and the emerging fragrance of the citrus blossoms. Mary Anne Koski

We have been given such a beautiful world! I love clouds and the peace they bring to my soul. I also enjoy "cloud-less" days because more sunshine can be seen and felt. –Lachelle Hull

I work outside and on Saturday (while working) I incorporated "gentleness with strangers" and ended up engaging and chatting with a woman. We talked rocks, trees, animals, birds- you name it. At the end of our conversation she said God put me in her path to rejuvenate her love of nature. It was a great experience. –Hillarie Miller

I have always been a big nature lover so this one wasn't hard for me, but I enjoyed reading my scriptures outside! I felt like my brain was opened to learning more and I was able to understand what I had read and really loved the peace and quietness of being outside while studying the scriptures. – Trellany Udall

I have always gone to nature for clarity and to feel closer to my Father and Savior. It was wonderful this week to purposely go out with that in mind. – Rani Halliday

It's incredible how we get what we look for in life. If we look for misery and gloom, we'll find it. If we seek the sunlight and happiness, we'll find that, too. I became hyper-vigilant about noticing things in nature this week. I tried to spot things that I haven't noticed before... and I am AMAZED at the beauty that surrounds me! – Janell DeWitt

I loved hearing about your sisters sweet experience with the trees, the way they comforted her. Reading her experience, really influenced me as I walked in nature this week. I went to the Mesa temple and entered through the baptistry doors, just so I could have a more secluded, quiet, nature walk on sacred ground. I closed my eyes, walked slowly, and prayed my way there.  – Spring Thibaudeau

on Friday I went to the Mesa cemetery with two of my sisters to visit our parents' and my sister son's graves. There at the cemetery are a lot of cypress, olive, and orange tree. The orange blossoms were in bloom and it smell wonderful. But I could not help but thinks of the cypress and the olive trees. These two trees are often mentioned in scripture. In the dictionary it says that the cypress tree or branches from it is a a symbol of mourning. And in Jacob chapters 5 and 6, we learn Zeno's allegory of the tame and wild olive trees. I thought this talk was interesting about the tree-of-life in ancient cultures because it refer to both the cypress and the olive trees.

I experienced the most glorious sunset with my husband at the California coast and I couldn’t take a picture because my phone had died so I had to memorize the scene with my mind and I'm kind of glad I didn't get to rely on my phone because now I think it's a perfect, peaceful moment in time, that I will never forget. I feel like it was truly a special gift from God to me. The next day was a hard day, with a difficult phone call in the middle of the night and pouring down rain for a 9-hour drive home, but I had the memory of the night before and we saw 3 incredible rainbows! Yet another reminder... "I'm still here. Everything is going to be Ok!" – Sarah Crawford

Thoughts on Mystery Challenge (write a friend)

I wrote several letters, one of which was to my great aunt Helen whom I haven't seen in years. I would like to restore a relationship with her as she is the only one left on my fathers side. I would love to be able to ask her questions about that part of my family. I haven't heard back from her yet but I'm hoping to. – Karen Harris

Haven't heard back...still in the process of getting them mailed. – Tava Udall

I thought and prayed about to whom I should write, but nothing very sensible was coming together, so I was patient. Then one day I was reminded--probably a prompting--that it was a good time for my husband and I to do our daily family scripture reading, something we usually do these days, but not always. We just read a handful of verses, and when we were finished, "bing," the person's name popped into my mind. Mary Anne Koski

I wrote to a friend whose wife died a few weeks ago. She was only 45. her name was Christine McLaws from Mesa. I saw her, heard her testimony, talked with her husband (my old friend) on several occasions (at church, stake conference), when I was in Arizona this past winter. She passed out at church on January 25th, and the next day she died. It has really affected me and I wanted him to know him and his family were being thought of and prayed for. – Janet Seto
The mystery challenge was bitter sweet for me. I texted a friend and arranged to have lunch together. It was a high for my week! Then later in the week, I had been pondering who else to get in contact with. I thought of a dear missionary companion who I had not heard from for a few years. I sent an email to her work email address, not knowing if she still worked at the company. Within 10 minutes, she wrote back that she received my email. She briefly caught me up on her life. Then she told me she had not been in the church for about 5 years and will never return. That broke my heart! She said she would always hold dear our friendship, but didn't know if I would still want to be her friend. It's been hard for me to know the words to say to let her know I want to continue to be friends because I do not knowing her position on why she left the church. Does she still believe in God? Was she offended? It's been really sad for me to think of the positive experiences we had as missionary companions and to know she's let it all go. I will write her back today to let her know I still care. (I've been sick for a few days and didn't get a chance.) I've been praying that she can feel Heavenly Father's love for her and see herself as He does. – Lachelle Hull

I have the letter written. I haven't sent it. – Hillarie Miller

I sent a couple texts or emails to friends and they all answered back and it was good to catch up and hopefully a few of them will lead to getting together for lunch. – Trellany Udall

I wrote and old friend from college . It was so fun to reconnect, reminisce, and catch up. It reminded me of how blessed I've been to have such good friends put in my path. Another evidence of Heavenly Father's love. – Rani Halliday

I LOVED THIS! It was so much fun to reconnect with old college roommates, mission buddies, High School teachers, singles ward friends, former work colleagues, etc. I kind of went crazy just reconnecting with random people. I tried to be very specific about what I thanked them for and many were surprised at the details I remembered about them all these years later.. I'm grateful the spirit prompted me to send a letter to one of my High School teachers. Mr. W taught me how to type. Although it may sound like a weird thing to thank someone for, being able to type fast and accurately helped me immensely in my college career as well as my professional career. Since I last saw Mr. W, he retired and his wife died so his life's been pretty rough. He said he's never received a thank you letter from a former student before and was very grateful. I felt SO good to have lifted his spirits! :)  - Janell DeWitt

Unexpectedly a childhood friend of mine ended up coming to visit me last week. I had a chance to speak my letter directly to her! It was such a blessing to have her come and be able to reconnect- for both of us. – Camille Smith

so often I intend to do something, but never get around to it. I need to do better at "Never suppressing a generous thought." It always feels sublime to follow through with that prompting. Writing that type of uplifting note, under the influence of the spirit, I know, does far more for me than the recipient. Thanks for the extra push this week. It was a blessing. – Spring Thibaudeau

I wrote my nextdoor neighbor, Jake Hall, who is on a mission in Canada and I thanked him for HIS inspired letter to my son (who was one of his best friends) the week before. I was so grateful that he had followed a prompting of the Spirit to write my son a letter that really touched his heart. Jake (Elder Hall) wrote me right back and it was great to hear from him! I miss that young man! – Sarah Crawford

In case you were wondering… we had 29 people fill out the survey this week and most reported points. Here is what the totals for this week are looking like! Some people have lost track of their running totals but that’s ok. I could go back and add them up for you but I’ve been too darn busy! Maybe later! But great job everyone who reported and didn’t report but are still moving forward! This group is so wonderful!

MYSTERY CHALLENGE: Go to the temple! If you are willing and able, go to the temple and do work for the dead. If you aren't able to go inside, just go walk the grounds and enjoy some quiet peaceful time. If there is no temple near you, go to the most beautiful place you can think of to ponder and pray. Week 4 Survey and Kick off of WEEK 5!

Greetings from California!

My hubby and I are here watching my son play lacrosse with ASU and enjoyed a stunning sunset on the beach! How was week 4, ENJOY NATURE for you? Did your perspective of nature change at all? Did you feel some love for and from nature? Is this something you are going to incorporate more into your daily life? What about the other challenges? Are you still smiling and talking to strangers? Yesterday I got a nice compliment on my pink dress from a scruffy looking guy in the hallway because I struck up a quick conversation as we walked past each other. It was really cute! I hope you are feeling more light and hope and love in your lives, even if it's just a little, from one thing that we've done, that's progress! Or perhaps it has nothing to do with what we've done, but with what God has in store for you. He is a God of miracles and they come in all shapes and sizes!

This week we are Looking at those who came before us! Give yourself points when you spend some time looking at pictures, scrapbooks, reading journals or learn anything about your ancestors. Maybe search online for new ancestors and learn a little about them. You could call your grandparents on the phone if they are alive, or visit with your parents, or aunts/uncles about where you came from. Try and learn something NEW! When I was making my soul book, I had fun making a page about my ancestors because I want my soul to remember all the different people who went into making me! And to remember that they are still around me and my family... that they are still watching over us and helping us when and how they can. I also like to imagine what qualities I might have inherited from them. The good ones I try and amplify, the not so good ones, I can still learn from. I choose who I want to be! :)

I just love this quote from a talk given in 2012, by Apostle, Richard G. Scott (but he was actually quoting the prophet Joseph F. Smith) during a talk about "How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for your Personal Life" (isn't that what we are trying to do?) He says that we are in the presence of heavenly messengers and heavenly beings...

" … We are closely related to our kindred, to our ancestors … who have preceded us into the spirit world. We can not forget them; we do not cease to love them; we always hold them in our hearts, in memory, and thus we are associated and united to them by ties that we can not break. … If this is the case with us in our finite condition, surrounded by our mortal weaknesses, … how much more certain it is … to believe that those who have been faithful, who have gone beyond … can see us better than we can see them; that they know us better than we know them. … We live in their presence, they see us, they are solicitous for our welfare, they love us now more than ever. For now they see the dangers that beset us; … their love for us and their desire for our well being must be greater than that which we feel for ourselves.”1
Relationships can be strengthened through the veil with people we know and love. That is done by our determined effort to continually do what is right. We can strengthen our relationship with the departed individual we love by recognizing that the separation is temporary and that covenants made in the temple are eternal. When consistently obeyed, such covenants assure the eternal realization of the promises inherent in them." (To read the whole talk, go here https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/how-to-obtain-revelation-and-inspiration-for-your-personal-life?lang=eng )
Don't you LOVE THAT?!! I don't know about you guys but something crazy is going on on this planet of ours. I feel both powers of good and evil fighting such an intense battle. I have never had so many highs and lows in my life so on top of each other. I know the good is winning but I feel like I keep getting punched in the gut and I imagine the same thing is happening with many of you too. I pray for you and I worry about you but I know we are in good hands and are doing the ONE most important thing...turning to God and asking for his help and His LOVE. He will sustain us. He is sustaining me. We are surrounded by those who have already gone through the veil to the other side and they are pulling for us too. We need their strength. I feel their strength. That's why I think it's so important to learn about them and let them know they are still so important to us. We all need each other! Some of them are still waiting for their temple work to be done. They need us too!!!

ONE MORE THING: I found THE PERFECT video for this week's challenge on the Mormon Channel (an app on my phone and a website. I highly recommend it!) I love this man's experience with his grandfather. PLEASE WATCH:

HERE IS THE SURVEY!! Please take before Tuesday morning!

I will leave you with a scripture I found yesterday that I really, really needed today. It's in the Book of Mormon, Jacob 3:1-2

1 But behold, I, Jacob, would speak unto you that are pure in heart. Look unto God with firmness of mind, and pray unto him with exceeding faith, and he will console you in your afflictions, and he will plead your cause, and send down justice upon those who seek your destruction.
2 O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever.
We are the pure in heart. We are asking God for his help and his love and guidance and are making changes so we can be better people and be worthy of his blessings. Isn't that what he wants us to do? Aren't we being who he wants to help? Of course! Let's lift up our heads and let our minds be firm. Firm in faith in Christ, God's son, who IS love and IS the tree. XOXOXO

Lots of love! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!Inline image 2
